For renewable energy projects, location is key to protect biodiversity - IUCN guidelines
Gland, Switzerland, 24 February 2021 (IUCN) – By planning solar and wind renewable energy projects in areas with a lower conservation priority, project developers can avoid the most severe potential negative impacts on biodiversity, according to a new set of guidelines released today by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), The Biodiversity Consultancy and other partners. -
One-third of freshwater fish face extinction, warns new report
A new report 'The World's Forgotten Fishes' reveals the extraordinary variety of freshwater fish. This variety accounts for over half of all the world's fish species and is essential to the health of the world's rivers, lakes and wetlands and well-being of societies and economies across the globe. Yet, freshwater fish are under ever increasing pressure with one in three threatened with extinction, according to the new report published today by 16 global conservation organizations. -
IUCN World Conservation Congress to be held from 3 to 11 September 2021 in Marseille
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the French government have agreed to hold the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 from 3 to 11 September 2021 in Marseille. The event, originally scheduled for June 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
